Chesapeake Pinky with Case
The model of the Chesapeake Pinky is kit built by Frank
Black with great attention to detail. The sails are carefully tied to the two
booms, the lines are coiled on the deck, the tiller and rudder move, and the
cockpit has a wooden grate.
The Chesapeake Pinky design is derived from the larger
schooners that originated in 16th century Europe and ruled the New England
fishing industry from early 1800’s to the middle of the century. The boat
design received its name from its uplifted, narrow or “pinked” stern. The hull
design made the Pinky graceful and stable under sail. The Pinky was introduced
to the Chesapeake Bay in a shallow draft form that was ideal for fishing and for
pleasure sailing.
