New York Yacht Club 32'
This pristine model was originally built by
A.C. Hawthorne around 1939. Hawthorne entered the model in several
competitions, most notably it was judged in an international contest aboard the
Queen Mary. Out of 1,400 entries this model was "the only model they could
find nothing wrong with." Over the years the model fell to poor condition.
Fortunately John Vang of Beaufort, NC has undertaken a complete restoration of
this gem. The NY 32' is protected by a custom glass case with the mast
ingeniously suspended horizontally across the top of the case.
The New York Yacht Club 32's were a one-design
class sponsored by the NY Yacht Club and designed and built by Herreshoff.
According to "Wooden Boat" magazine Nov-Dec 1986, "The 32s were--and are--good
all-around boats; simple, seakindly, sensibly rigged, and conveniently
arranged."
